Do I need to wean off the Climara patch slowly or can I suspend wearing it immediately. What are the potential side effects of stopping it's use?

I've been on the patch for about 2 days and I was reading up about the Xulane patch and if it was a good option/ the side effects etc.. and I saw that it could cause heart problems if you smoke, which I do. I also have a history of breast cancer on both sides of my family. I don't know if I should continue to use the patch or stop.

Ive been using the patch for over a year now and its been great until last month I put on my patch on week 3 a day late and got my period , when I took my patch off the following week for my patch free week I continued to have my period there fore I had it for 2 weeks straight, that was fine I taught it was a once off. This month the same thing happened , week 3 I replaced my patch (on time) and got my period 2 days later and now have them for 2 weeks again. What does this mean? What will I do?

I know the pain should ease up, but what other signs will I have that the patch is working?

I had protected sex a week ago. I was on the patch birth control and we used a condom; however, the condom came off inside of me. I was scared that birth control wasn't enough so I took the plan b pill. My period came on time but it is super light and only brown. My periods are usually red and somewhat heavy in the beginning. I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago & have been having horrible hot flashes ever since. I finally talked my doctor into putting me on a clonidine patch (my BP is normally on the very low end of normal) because I know a few other people who were helped by it. It's definitely helped but the patches are SO expensive. I don't know anyone who took the pills for hot flashes, just the patch. Are the pills just as helpful or is the patch really the best for hot flashes?
